september 2019 ministry update

Dear Friends & Family

“The Missionary heart ...
Cares more than some think is wise,
Risks more than some think is safe,
Dreams more than some think is practical,
Expects more than some think is possible.”

With God, all things are possible.
Exciting news:  Container # 5 will be loaded at the Gleaner’s Plant on either the last week of September or first week of October (just waiting for confirmation from the shipper).

We have had many generous donations to enable this next container to go and we want to acknowledge every individual, Church and organization who contributed.  You are very much appreciated.

We have taken a step of faith and hired Pastor Sergio Barahona, on a part time basis for now.  He Pastors a Church in Aldea Chicojl, but needs an income as do many Pastors in this region of Guatemala.  We are excited to have him with our ministry.

It has been wonderful to have the ministry work under Seeds to Harvest carry on under the direction of Chris & Leah Rozycki, our daughter and son in law, while we are back in Canada.

They were able to help out with the baptisms of 11 new believers in Sergio’s Church.  In our North American world where it is difficult to enter into conversation with people about matters of faith, in other parts of the world the Church is growing and people are hungry for the truth of the gospel, praise God.  Please pray for these new believers.  Baptism is simply an outward expression of an inward reality - an expression of an individual’s faith commitment to Jesus Christ.  Such a beautiful thing to witness.

Chris & Leah have had opportunity to introduce the Gleaners soup to a couple of new school feeding programs and show the Jesus Film for Children at those same schools.

Construction of a maternity clinic in the village of Santa Marta is now underway.  Generous donations came forward to enable the village to begin construction.  This project is being overseen by Chris and Sergio.  This is a community of 125 families and the clinic will serve a couple of nearby villages.

A few individuals are expressing interest in coming on a small team, mostly Gleaners volunteers possibly late January, 2020.  If this is something you think you would like to participate in, please contact us at our email below.  We will host an information meeting around the end of September.  A short term mission trip is life changing for many people and we would love to have you come.
Prayer requests:
  1. For all processes involved with this next container from loading to shipping, and especially once it enters Guatemala.
  2. For the construction of the maternity clinic in Santa Marta, for the safety of all men involved in the construction.
  3. For those 11 new believers baptized in Sergio’s Church.  Many Indigenous Guatemalans have been raised in a confusion of beliefs (Catholicism mixed with witchcraft/shamanism and traditional Mayan beliefs).  One result of this is that if a family has a sick or disabled child (of which there are many) they believe that it is because of a curse.  Sergio shares the truth of the gospel message, as well the film that we show declares that Jesus came to set us free.  Please pray that people would hear and believe.
  4. For the continued good health and safety of Chris & Leah and family and ourselves as we prepare to travel back to Guatemala.
  5. Funds for Pastor Sergio’s wages.

Romans 12:9-13 9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
