Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Ministry Update, September 2022
We had a wonderful 10 weeks in Canada this year.  It went by so fast.  It is good to be back in Guatemala.  
We had some good r & r but it was productive also.  We were able to share about Guatemala and our ministry at a few churches, and spend a little time at the Gleaners in the North Okanagan and get a container loaded and on its way to Guatemala.  Wonderful to catch up with some old friends and family, and spend some quality time with our oldest daughter and her husband.  
Since returning September 16, it has been a whirlwind of activity.  On the 19th the students of our second Pastor training group arrived for their 7th module which was on “The Healthy Church”. They really enjoyed this one, and we could hear lots of active discussion during class.  One of the students, Alfonso, commented to us at the end of class that this course has brought him to a place of loving the Lord so much more.

We have a third group starting on Sept. 26, and the week after that we will be hosting a group of Wycliffe Bible translators as they review the translations of the Achi and Pokomchi Bibles, which are two other languages spoken in our area of Guatemala.  Pedro Samuc, the fellow in the black in the photo above, is part of the Bible Translator team, and is a regular teacher in our pastor training.  We are blessed to have him part of our team.  
​Our container has arrived, made it through customs and has been delivered to Coban and unloaded.  A couple of other ministries in the area sent some young men to help, and it was unloaded quickly.  We are thankful for the many hands as it was raining and muddy.

On this container of food we have over 600,000 servings of food, plenty of medical equipment including 20 wheelchairs which are always in demand.  Also over 6,000 lbs of seeds which will be distributed in many areas of Guatemala.  Many hand made blankets and quilts made by some of the ladies who volunteer with the Gleaners were donated.   They are always appreciated, as we are in a cooler, rainier area of Guatemala.

Over the summer, several communities which are situated in an area that has had continual flooding over the last few years, were provided food from what we had in stock, so it is good to be able to replenish our supplies.  Many of the community leaders are still asking for help for their communities and we will be meeting with some of the leaders soon.  We have never known what it is like to go hungry and not be able to feed our children.  It is hard to imagine, and we feel that it is a privilege the Lord has given to us to be able to provide.  We only ask that the Lord give us wisdom and discernment as we help in these communities.
Customs in Guatemala has brought in some new rules in regard to bringing in containers.  We can no longer bring in food with other items.  It has to be either just food, or just medical equipment and the other items such as blankets and clothing.  This changes things for us as it has also become quite a bit more expensive for the shipping and we are evaluating what this will look like for future shipments.

We want to give an update on Yeimy.  She is currently at the childrens cancer hospital in Guatemala City with her Mom for about two weeks undergoing a series of tests.  If all is good, she will be discharged.  So please pray with us for good results.

Here she is with her little sister at her home, between treatments.  She turned 6 years old recently. 

Also, we have heard from Sergio that Wilson, (the young man from Chitu that we helped with treatment for a brain tumour) is doing really well with regard to mobility in his arm and leg.  His eyesight hasn’t improved, but emotionally and physically he is well.  We will be visiting him soon.
